We do not have a hygienist. We did at one time but she left to have a baby and we didn't replace her - many of our patients reported one of the reasons they came to the practice in the first place was because we didn't have a hygienist.
Many people do not like their teeth 'scraped'.
In this practice, we have programmes to teach patients more efficient ways of cleaning so that the calculus deposits that do adhere to teeth and gums are gradually removed by the patient's brushing actions and the gums regain their original healthy state.
There are, of course, many tooth-cleaning choices varying from a simple clean and polish, to advanced multi-visit deep-cleaning systems.
There are other programmes which look at a patient's diet, re-arranging them so that she/he can eat/drink what they like, anywhere they are, without damage to teeth and gums.
